TLDR

Xbox Wire stated it is partnering with TCL to bring the Xbox app to select smart TVs in coming months. The post came a day after reports of new limits and pay-as-you-go options for Xbox Cloud Gaming. Multiple users on X replied to the announcement highlighting the timing, with several calling it poor coordination or bad timing. Tom Warren at The Verge also noted the app rollout arrives alongside those cloud service adjustments.

@X1Titan@XBOXWire You are really going to post this after capping cloud gaming?
@BBGKingfuryYou guys know I like Xbox right? With that in mind! @XBOX how in the world does anyone think it’s a good idea to limit cloud streaming to 15 hours, to then partner up with a tv provider who will be limited to those 15 hours!
@tomwarrenthe Xbox app is coming to TCL TVs just as Microsoft rolls out pay-as-you-go cloud gaming. The announcement of TCL partnering with Xbox comes just a day after major changes being announced for Xbox Cloud Gaming. @vergeXbox Cloud Gaming is coming to more TVs, just as Microsoft makes some major changes to its cloud gaming service. https://www.theverge.com/news/990132/microsoft-xbox-tv-app-tcl-smart-tvs
@punjgamerHilarious Xbox app is coming to TCL TVs right after they announced those ridiculous cap on cloud gaming, lol.
@tslecomte@XBOXWire After yesterday’s “capping the cloud” post, you now post this. Wow, that’s gutsy and not the smartest thing to have done… 🤦‍♂️
@TrueGamer1111Cloud gaming in 2026
@richdev1neThis probably needed to come before the announcement that they're going to limit cloud gaming unless you need to pay more.
@DaddyLuvGuruXbox Cloud was a selling point not that long ago. Play anywhere. No console needed. Game Pass Ultimate gives you access. Now suddenly it’s too expensive, apparently hardly anyone uses it, and Game Pass users are getting monthly cloud limits. Then almost immediately, Xbox announces a new TCL partnership to put cloud gaming on millions more TVs. So which is it? Was cloud an important part of the Xbox ecosystem, or was it supposedly too expensive and barely used? Because from the outside, this just looks like Xbox spent years selling cloud as a feature, underdeveloped it, limited it, and is now trying to expand the audience again while charging more for actual usage.
