Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is heading into its Switch 2 launch with perfect scores from IGN and VGC. Nintendo’s tactical RPG drew praise in Sept. 16 reviews for the ambition of its four intertwined hero stories, alongside reservations from Nintendo Life about how well that sprawling adventure holds together.
IGN’s Brendan Graeber awarded it 10/10, praising the combination of battlefield strategy and management between fights. VGC gave it 5/5, with reviewer Dave Aubrey describing it as one of the boldest strategy RPGs he had played.
The game launches Sept. 17, 2026, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
Four stories, one campaign
Fortune’s Weave sends players into the past to gather the allies needed to defeat the demon god Balor. Its four heroes converge on Dagsion, where the Heroic Games offer the winner a single wish. Around that tournament, the game builds a mix of grid-based battles, recruitment and preparation. Nintendo’s overview sets out how those pieces fit together.
For Aubrey, much of the appeal comes from watching the heroes’ separate ambitions and perspectives feed into a shared finale. His VGC review describes a campaign designed to bring those journeys together.
That structure also gives players room to move between stories. Graeber reports that a hub lets them switch paths and replay completed chapters within a single save. He initially worried the one-save system would limit replayability, but found it let him explore different outcomes without restarting the whole adventure. His review credits the system with making the time-travel premise work as a practical feature.
The scale has its drawbacks
Nintendo Life’s Jim Norman gave Fortune’s Weave 8/10. He praised its responsive battle controls, distinct protagonists and wealth of activities, but found the pacing slipped in later chapters. Complicated protagonist management and grindy overworld progression took some of the shine off the adventure; the smaller Clash Battles also fell flat for him.
