Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is now available for Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan. Square Enix's Japanese store lists the RPG with a September 24, 2026 release date, a price of ¥5,478 and in-stock availability as of launch day.
This is a Switch 2 version of the existing Definitive Edition, not a new adventure. Square Enix's announcement says it carries over all of the content from Dragon Quest XI S while adding two display options: a resolution-priority mode focused on image quality and a performance-priority mode focused on frame rate. The publisher does not specify resolution or frame-rate targets in the announcement.
The publisher's product table identifies it as a single-player RPG and dates the earlier Definitive Edition release to December 4, 2020, while listing September 24, 2026 for Switch 2. That distinction matters here: the new listing is a platform release with two hardware-focused options, while the story and other Definitive Edition additions are returning content.
The boxed version is sold as a Nintendo Switch 2 key card rather than a cartridge containing the complete game. Square Enix says first-time play requires downloading the software, an internet connection and more than 30 GB of free storage. The store warns that the capacity requirement may change and that updates can require additional space.

The physical release also includes a special sleeve. Square Enix described that sleeve as a limited first-production bonus when it announced the port in May, so later copies may not include it.
Square Enix's Japanese store also offers an original digital wallpaper to buyers through October 15, 2026. The store says that bonus becomes available through the purchaser's account after launch and can be downloaded until September 24, 2029. That promotion is specific to the official e-STORE listing inspected for the Japanese release.
The practical pitch is therefore narrower than a remaster: the complete Definitive Edition is being carried onto Nintendo's newer hardware with a choice between image quality and performance. Square Enix's inspected pages do not describe an upgrade path for owners of the original Switch release, nor do they provide comparative performance measurements.
