Call of Duty: Warzone is adding an optional visual filter for players who want its cast to match Modern Warfare 4. Starting with MW4 Season 1, the new Operator Skin toggle can make older character skins appear as MW4 Operators on the viewer’s screen.
The setting applies only to Warzone. When it is on, enemies and other players in the lobby who equipped an Operator from an older game are displayed as MW4 Operators. The same substitution applies to party members and the player’s in-game squad.
The filter does not replace the player’s own character. Someone who equips a non-MW4 Operator will continue to see that chosen model for themselves, even with the toggle enabled. Call of Duty also says the setting will be off by default, so the mixed roster remains the standard presentation unless a player opts in.
Carry Forward stays in place
The visual filter does not remove previously earned or purchased content. Operators, skins, blueprints and camos from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 remain available through Warzone’s Carry Forward system.
Older weapons will also remain accessible through a Legacy tab in the Loadout menu, but with two limits. Previous custom loadouts will not carry over, and Gunsmith editing will not be supported for legacy weapons or their blueprints. Call of Duty says each older base weapon will instead have a five-attachment version, while owned blueprints keep their existing attachment setups.
That creates a split between appearance and access. Players can narrow the characters they see to the current game’s lineup without losing the older collection attached to their account, while the weapon system pushes MW4 gear toward the center of competitive play.
Raven Software says its goal is for Warzone’s weapon meta to feel rooted in Modern Warfare 4. The studio plans to balance weapons every two weeks throughout each season. The announcement does not give a date for Season 1 or describe a separate filter for weapons, blueprints or camos.
