Shigeru Miyamoto named first video game industry recipient of Japan’s Order of Culture

Denfaminicogamer reports Japan’s education ministry announced Miyamoto’s selection on October 23, 2026, making him the first honoree from the video game industry. The Order of Culture recognizes contributions to Japanese culture. At a press conference the day before, Miyamoto credited his collaborators, including those on film and Super Nintendo World projects, and said games becoming culture meant they had become part of everyday life.
