Double Fine workers withdrew their union petition after two weeks

Kotaku reports that 32 Double Fine workers signed a union petition in May 2026. Organizers withdrew it two weeks later as support fell amid disputes over eligibility and how the campaign was handled. After Xbox spun off the studio, Double Fine laid off 23 people, including all eight organizers who signed the withdrawal letter. Studio head Tim Schafer denied targeting union supporters for layoffs.
