Rayman Legends Retold is rebuilding the 2013 platformer rather than simply polishing it, with 3D models, reworked environments and an entirely new realm added to the original structure.

After playing several hours, Polygon's Jason Venter wrote that the remake keeps classic side-scrolling mechanics while using detailed lighting, textures and backgrounds to create a stronger illusion of depth. Familiar worlds now contain more animated scenery and environmental detail, from misty jungle ruins to oversized food landscapes backed by grinding machinery.

The largest structural addition is a sixth realm with a darker tone. Venter described cramped passages lined with tombstones, purple haze and twisting spike-covered vines, with levels that demanded more precision than the main adventure's gentler opening material. Musical stages and other set pieces also return with new visual and mechanical flourishes.

The package changes how older content is organized. Stages from Rayman Origins that were folded into the original Rayman Legends are no longer part of the main campaign. They have been moved into Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition, a separate game included with Retold.

That distinction makes the remake both broader and more segmented: the new Legends campaign gains a realm and extensive visual work, while the Origins material becomes its own remastered release. Rayman Legends Retold is scheduled for December 3 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. The positive judgments are Polygon's hands-on impressions from a preview build, not a final review.
