@mizzysworldI have a thesis about where gaming is going. love him or hate him, Hideo Kojima makes a game release feel like a new film from a director you follow. the trailers, casting, imagery, pacing, weird shit he chooses to linger on. there’s a perspective running through all of it. once you recognize it, you can’t really unsee it. you can argue about whether the gameplay lives up to that vision. tons of people do. but his name alone makes people curious about what he’s making next. i think we’re going to see a lot more of that. as AI makes game development more accessible, mechanics and features will become easier to build and easier to copy. that doesn’t automatically make a good game, but it does make “we built this feature” a weaker reason to stand out. your perspective, aesthetic, and the world you build around the game become increasingly important. not just having taste, but making it recognizable enough that people want to see what you do with an idea. i think the celebrity game designer becomes a much bigger thing. more people following individual creatives across releases, the way they follow musicians or film directors. gameplay still has to deliver. but when more people can build the thing, the question becomes: why do i want yours? “because i want to see the world through your eyes” ends up becoming a pretty strong answer.
