Polls Disagree on Japanese Exception in Resident Evil Debate

Gamers argue the phrase targets narrow Western tastes while sparing Japanese titles like Resident Evil.

TLDR

Users discuss the 'ball and gun' term that mocks players limited to yearly releases like Call of Duty and FIFA. One post states Resident Evil keeps pace with those franchises in sales yet avoids the label. Another claims the phrase singles out Western games because Japanese entries receive different treatment. Replies note the expression ridicules coworker taste rather than any game with firearms and place Resident Evil slightly above the mocked titles.

@semiimortalSince we on the topic, this the thing that always infuriates me about the "ball and gun" discourse is that they completely leave out japanese games. Like it's clearly meant as a disdain to western games because RE is def a "ball and gun" game but doesn't get that label because??
@corcnachthow about no (both? both)
@SaberKinnikuThe COPIUM levels being displayed on why/how Resident Evil isnt a ball and gun game is so funny. Glad to see everyone realize how stupid the phrase is
@_Dr_phantom_A “gun and ball” gamer is someone who usually only plays live service yearly releases. It's someone who says they're a gamer and always buys a new console but has never even attempted to engage with anything other then cod, whatever sport video game they like it, or another live-
@I__HATE_SOCCER“Gun and ball” is to make fun of people who only ever play COD and fifa then say gaming is dead, it’s not a moniker for literally any game that has a firearm in it.
@maliegotitComments hilarious there talking about puzzles LMAO
