Risk of Rain 2 is adding two sharply different survivors in its upcoming Hallowed Concepts expansion: Enforcer, a returning defensive specialist, and Acolyte, a new close-range fighter who trades health security for greater power. The Risk of Rain team’s fourth development diary lays out both ability kits and says mod creators recruited to the development team helped build the characters.
The expansion is not yet available, and its Steam page still lists the release date as “to be announced”. The new diary focuses on what each survivor contributes to a run rather than launch timing.
Enforcer can hold the line or charge into it
Enforcer’s kit centers on a shield and tools for protecting the group. Steel Protection blocks attacks while the shield faces the danger. Reactivating the ability at the right moment parries incoming projectiles back toward their owners, while nearby monsters are knocked back and stunned.
That defense is paired with mobility. Shield Tackle has two charges, and players can spend both together to strengthen the tackle and cover more ground. Rally Point gives Enforcer a team-support option: he slams the ground to knock enemies away and creates a Holdout Beacon that grants a barrier. Each kill incrementally restores that barrier, allowing teammates to remain behind the protection as the fight continues.
The team describes Enforcer as a survivor built for the center of a crowded battle. His mechanics turn that pitch into a specific role: face the threat, redirect dangerous shots and create space for less durable allies.
Acolyte turns health into a resource
Acolyte is a close-range glaive fighter whose N’Kuhana’s Grace ability changes how healing works. Part of the health she loses is placed into a reserve that she can reclaim later, while incoming healing is diverted into the same pool. That makes recovery something players must actively manage instead of receiving immediately.
Her primary attack is a three-hit combo with movement choices built into it. Sprinting during the sequence lunges through a target, while jumping launches it with an uppercut. Bola Throw can pull a target’s soul out when Acolyte slips out of close range, giving her another way to continue an attack.
Sacrifice marks an enemy and channels a burst of damage through it. Kills build a resource called conviction, but the diary deliberately stops short of explaining what happens as conviction rises. That unanswered piece leaves the most consequential part of Acolyte’s risk-and-reward loop for a later reveal.
