Marvel’s Wolverine sold an estimated 1.9 million copies and generated $130 million during its first three days, according to new figures from Alinea Analytics. If the estimate holds, Insomniac’s action game is already the sixth top-grossing new PS5 release of 2026.
Rhys Elliott, Alinea’s head of market analysis, said 1 million copies came from pre-launch digital orders. The firm estimates that physical copies accounted for 22.9% of revenue.
The numbers are third-party modeled estimates, not official sales disclosed by Sony or Insomniac. Elliott also noted that Alinea’s sold-through calculation excludes unsold copies sitting with retailers, which publishers may include when reporting shipments.
A fast start against other PlayStation releases
On a launch-aligned basis, Alinea estimates that Wolverine generated more PS5 revenue in three days than Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, Astro Bot, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin and Helldivers 2 did over the same period. Only Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, at an estimated $250 million in three days, sits clearly ahead among the PlayStation Studios comparisons Elliott shared.
The firm also estimates that Wolverine has already passed Death Stranding 2’s lifetime PS5 totals of 1.8 million copies and $129 million. Among 2026 releases more broadly, Elliott’s comparison places it just above NBA 2K27’s estimated $127 million PS5 launch and farther ahead of Resident Evil Requiem, 007 First Light and Crimson Desert.
The launch does not guarantee a Spider-Man-sized tail
Elliott expects Wolverine to keep selling through holiday purchases, new PS5 owners and future X-Men marketing. He also predicts a shorter, less consistent sales tail than Insomniac’s Spider-Man games because Wolverine received a more mixed critical and streamer response.
That forecast is necessarily less concrete than the launch estimate. The clearest takeaway so far is narrower: despite polarized online discussion, Alinea’s model suggests Wolverine opened as one of the year’s biggest PS5 releases.
