Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin now has a PC mod built to keep an entire party together from the tutorial to the final boss. Yui's Seamless Co-op overhaul supports a host and up to five other players, replacing the base game's repeated cycle of summoning, disconnections and multiplayer boundaries.
The release arrived in alpha on Sept. 22. Its creator gives that label real weight: the Nexus page warns that users are very likely to encounter bugs and should not expect a bug-free experience. The project had already reached version 0.0.3 by Sept. 26, with fixes for extremely low frame rates on certain CPUs and support for guest players earning Steam achievements.
What makes the co-op seamless
In the base game, PC Gamer notes, a long cooperative run involves repeated summoning, fog walls and session interruptions. Yui's mod removes those area barriers and stops defeated bosses from sending cooperators home. When a player dies, they return at the last bonfire used by the party without ending the shared session.
Progression events completed online also carry into each player's world. NPC dialogue and talk events are synchronized, and resting at a bonfire resets the world state for everyone. Under the hood, the mod replaces parts of the game's peer-to-peer connection system with Steam's newer networking interface and reworks voice chat into a proximity-based system.
The easier path through multiplayer does not remove every restriction. Players cannot rest while someone in the party is fighting a boss. A death during a boss battle or invasion puts that player into spectator limbo until the party is defeated or someone reaches a bonfire. Hosts can also enable an optional curse system that increases enemy difficulty after repeated deaths, alongside configurable scaling.
Separate saves and an alpha warning
The mod is limited to the 64-bit Scholar of the First Sin edition on PC, specifically game version 1.03. Everyone in a party needs matching game and mod versions, an active Steam connection and the same session password. Yui recommends a secure password because anyone who knows it can join immediately.
Seamless Co-op blocks connections to FromSoftware's matchmaking servers and uses .co2 save files instead of the base game's .sl2 files. That separation is intended to keep the modded environment away from vanilla multiplayer. Yui explicitly warns players not to move a mod save back into the base game, where the added items could create a ban risk. For players willing to accept an evolving alpha, the trade is a far less fragmented way to cross Drangleic with friends.
