TLDR

A post by @carylesbian observed that fans who say they like villains because the characters are evil often dislike reminders of those same acts. Replies from @pierroswife and others in the Genshin fandom noted that irritation frequently comes when people invent additional crimes instead of discussing what the character actually did. @zedbortion and @crocorobin described such comments as intrusive on light posts. Additional voices argued the reactions reflect broader habits of treating fictional figures like real individuals whose actions demand moral judgment.

@carylesbianthe “i like him BECAUSE he’s evil and flawed” crowd sure doesn’t like it when you bring up the evil things he did
@magnolianvoid“He’s SUPPOSED to be unlikeable!” So why do you get mad when people don’t like him
@zedbortionI get it I really do but if you randomly bring character I likes crimes or uhm "he is horrible btw" under my "they are so cute" etc fun post I should be legally allowed to kwll you. 💖
@Apu_Simpson25The problem with this reasoning is that is NEVER about character analisys and more about "How DARE this character to do such thing! He should never have exited!" Like if they were real people and not a character with layers. And is because current discourses are more about "But what about MY feelings" rather than discussions about how a narrative is constructed and how say characters change, react, evolved, de-evolved until reaching a climax. If every character you like sound like you, agree with you, think like you, and act like you.... then you will never let them disagree with you.
@tropotropotropoThe way #they keep inspiring hit tweets even when not mentioned...twd cultural relevancy w
@priestirebc yall act like its moral thing and think that if you like a villain you're as bad as him or you lack media literacy
@pierroswifei will say that around half the time, at least in the genshin fandom, people get annoyed when people do this because instead of focusing on the actual evil things the character in question did… people just make shit up 😭
@crocorobin@pierroswife People are also just annoying about it, too. It's okay to dislike a villain character, but if you're acting like enjoying a fictional character who's a shitty person is somehow indicative of people's morals, you shouldn't be surprised that people become defensive about that
@bo0kthoughtsThey’re in the quotes crying abt moral grandstanding when 9 times out of ten they’re defending the horrible behavior and try to justify it for a mid ass male character that commits war crimes for fun. They can’t like an evil character and be chill. It’s not in their nature lmao
@shaTIREDA lot of y’all act like we should throw anyone who has fucked up in the past into a volcano no matter how much they develop, grow, express remorse, or change
