Minecraft is bringing the Sift to the main game, but players will enter the new dimension first through Minecraft Dungeons II when the action RPG launches September 29. The announcement establishes an order for the rollout without giving the Sift’s broader Minecraft arrival a date.
The complete Minecraft LIVE recap describes the Sift as coming to Minecraft and tells players they will “experience it first in Dungeons II.” It does not name Java or Bedrock Edition, set a later release window or promise that every feature in the spinoff version will carry into the main game.
Minecraft had already introduced the dimension through a Dungeons II gameplay trailer in August. In that game, mysterious rifts lead into the Sift, which the studio describes as a place of unfamiliar threats and strange landscapes. The September announcement changes the dimension’s significance by placing it on a path beyond the dungeon-crawling sequel.
Two worlds connected by quests
The Sift is not presented as one isolated mission map in Dungeons II. Minecraft’s gameplay-systems overview says the sequel links the Sift and Overworld through large regions containing narrative events, settlements, structures and fast-travel hubs. Caves and forgotten ruins can change between visits, while the world map helps players navigate or teleport to a nearby friend.
Main and side quests span both worlds. The examples range from tracking down a beekeeper’s missing bees to pursuing the Twisted Warden, with experience and gear among the possible rewards. That structure gives the Sift a role in the campaign’s mystery instead of treating it only as a backdrop.
Dungeons II supports solo play and groups of up to four. Minecraft lists couch co-op, online cross-play, mixed local and online play, matchmaking and party codes, so the Sift can be explored across several party setups. The sequel also expands its gear and enchanting systems, but those are Dungeons II features rather than promises for the Sift’s eventual form in standard Minecraft.
For now, September 29 is the firm date for entering the Sift through Dungeons II. Minecraft’s first-party announcement leaves the main game’s timing, supported editions and implementation for a later reveal.
