Santa Monica Studio is giving Faye a little more time. God of War Laufey is now scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 5 on May 20, 2027, moving the adventure roughly three months beyond its original February 16 date.
The studio announced the delay on November 4. In its statement, reproduced by Game Informer, Santa Monica said it would use the additional time for “finishing touches” and to push the game “to its fullest potential.”
What changed
The previous February 16 launch date appeared in PlayStation’s September pre-order announcement. The move to May adds just over three months to the wait.
Santa Monica thanked fans for their response to the game’s June reveal and said more updates would follow. The statement did not identify a specific technical problem or announce a change in the game’s scope.
Faye takes the lead
Laufey puts Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother at the center of the story. According to PlayStation’s official game overview, Faye awakens after her death in the Everywhen, an afterlife where gods from different mythologies compete for power. Her plans to protect her family are threatened, sending her on a fight to find her way home.
Her companions include Rue, enchanted ribbons guarding her sword, and Phranque, a cosmic cube connected to the Everywhen. Combat combines sword attacks and Jötnar magic, with Sony describing a mix of the modern games’ close combat and the earlier Greek saga’s mobility.
