Gamers Question Whether New Game+ Ruins Replays

A player questions the appeal of starting replays already at max power.

TLDR

Gwen posted that she does not see the point of New Game+ because she prefers not to replay a game with every endgame ability and stat already unlocked. She noted that the feature now appears in most titles. In replies, users suggested skipping the mode by starting a regular new game instead. One cited Mega Man X8, where repeated playthroughs are required to purchase powerful weapons and extra characters. Others described New Game+ as optional and sometimes paired with new content or higher difficulty.

@rubynesoberiI still don’t get the point of New Game+. If I want to replay a game I don’t want a weird version where I have all my endgame abilities and stats but every game seems to have it now
@ChrisSullyOfficThen just use a different save file??
@MaritheKityNew Game Plus as we know it was made for Chrono Trigger, a game with lots of branching choices that has a ton of alternate endings dependent on when you beat the final boss. It made the most sense there, and a lot of New Game Plus's lack that hook CT had.
@LonelyGoomba@rubynesoberi I nevcer understood it either. Now I get to play the game with absolutely no challenge or thought...ok? The only time I ever play them is if I wanna get 100% I suppose, if I missed something
@GenghisConnThr3The best implementation of ng+ in my experience is Mega Man X8, all of the cool shit in that game requires you to do multiple playthroughs to be able to buy everything in the shop which includes broken weapons like the Sigma Sword and even extra playable characters.
@Sadbonerman@snacks_fruity2 Often times NG+ can also come with new content, new difficulty or new systems to make the game a challenge its quite literally optional and a #YouChooseTheButtonsThatYouPress moment
@itsashotgunbaby@ZinogreVolt i normally don't like to run the You Control The Buttons You Press defense but not playing NG+ is as simple as just hitting regular new game instead
@RevolverJermI hate modern gamers. They complain about completely optional features in games.
@Jahlvardravito@BuuMajin14894 @ZinogreVolt you're just talking about your own aversion to replaying a game in general. that has nothing to do with the utility of a new game +. it is a feature specifically for people who DO enjoy replaying games.
@SMGold_I could be pedantic and just say “you control the buttons you press” but New Game+ is probably the most voluntary decision you can make in a game. You can choose to not do it and the option is only available after having a complete experience. You are not being denied anything
