@KotakuInsomniac's take on Wolverine is refreshingly straightforward compared to the open world of Spider-Man, but its one-track mind can't get out of its own damn way. All the thematic complexities and spinning plates Wolverine balances on the tip of one of Logan's adamantium claws make the actual slashing he does with those weapons embedded in his metal skeleton seem surprisingly simple by contrast, and how I felt about that depended largely on the specific fight Logan or his enemies had picked. @gameinformerWith Marvel's Wolverine, Insomniac once again captures what works about a famous comic book superhero, but that makes this is a very different game from the studio's prior releases in the genre. @SpawnWaveMediaWolverine sitting at a 78 on Metacritic, that's lower then I was expecting.
@Okami13_Marvel's Wolverine scores a 78 on Metacritic and a 77 on OpenCritic. Sounds like the story is decent, but the combat lacks depth and overall they played it very safe.
@ethangachCompeting against the sky high expectations set by Spider-Man, Insomniac's take on Wolverine had a tough mountain to climb. Without access to the studio's signature sandbox, it might be the most "just fine" PS5 exclusive in a while Kotaku's review: https://kotaku.com/marvels-wolverine-review-insomniac-logan-jean-spider-man-2000732912

@GameSpotMarvel's Wolverine is a solid, cinematic, and occasionally thrilling experience that ticks all the necessary boxes for a decent action game. But it does so in a workman-like fashion and never aspires to much more than the essentials. Wolverine is an action game that serves the character well enough, but it doesn’t lean into Insomniac’s strengths or leverage its creativity, and the game feels unremarkable because of it.
