Nintendo is opening the fourth part of Fire Emblem Shadows as the mobile game reaches its first anniversary. The new chapter returns to Kurt and Rose's story in Holtz, Rose's homeland, where the publisher teases another encroaching dark threat.

The accompanying v2.0.0 update does more than move the plot forward. Its biggest mechanical addition is Support Effects, which expands the game's support-conversation system. Unlocking an A+ conversation allows a character to equip the exclusive magic of their support partner.

Nintendo's example pairs Kurt with Rose: after their A+ conversation is unlocked, Kurt can swap one of his exclusive spells for Rose's Cross Live EX. Players who unlock A+ conversations with more than one character can replace both exclusive-magic slots, although the same support partner cannot be assigned on both the light and dark sides. The borrowed spell's level is also capped by the level of the character equipping it.

An anniversary campaign and a new season

The first-anniversary campaign introduces Black Knight as a special apostle and offers special weapons and outfits. Nintendo also lists limited-time, theme-based soul pickups and a chance to win one million gold, framing the latter as a possibility rather than a guaranteed reward.

The next season pass, Beautiful Shadow, introduces Dietrich. Nintendo says the new season begins at 3 p.m. on September 25 in Japan, alongside new support conversations for Dietrich and Skoll and for Black Knight and Ike. The preceding Young Lion season ends immediately before the changeover, and unclaimed rewards cannot be collected after it closes.

v2.0.0 reshapes navigation too

Players who have collected all Part 1 story rewards can now choose which later story part to advance. The light and dark sides can follow different parts, and the selection can be changed from the menu. The update also changes the home screen and main visual to Part 4 imagery.

Other additions include a Sea Cave labyrinth map, the ability to rotate character models on several equipment and profile screens, and the return of the beginner support pack. Nintendo's notes also mention presentation and comfort improvements, but do not itemize every fix.
