A roughly 190–192 GB collection of internal Rockstar Games material has spread more widely online, opening up a large cache that reporters and dataminers say traces back to the company’s 2022 security breach. The clearest discoveries concern abandoned plans for Grand Theft Auto 5, while a smaller portion appears to show very early development work on Grand Theft Auto 6.
Kotaku reports that the archive was posted more broadly on Sept. 17 after previously circulating among a smaller group. This is therefore described as a wider release of older stolen material, not evidence of a new intrusion at Rockstar.
Liberty City was more than a rumor
The most substantial find is data connected to “LibertyV,” an unrealized expansion that would have brought Liberty City into GTA 5 or GTA Online. According to Notebookcheck’s account of the ongoing analysis, shoreline audio-zone data was used to trace an outline larger than the Liberty City map in GTA 4. That does not show how complete or playable the expansion became, but it gives the long-rumored project a more concrete shape.
The archive reportedly includes material from other canceled GTA 5 projects, including mission names, recorded dialogue and environments for the Agent Trevor expansion. Kotaku says the files point to elaborate unused locations such as a space station and large underground areas. Some ideas from that abandoned single-player project are believed to have been repurposed for later GTA Online updates, though the newly circulated files expose more of the original plan.
The GTA 6 material is early and limited
The GTA 6 portion needs more caution. Kotaku describes what appears to be map-development material from around 2015, possibly built and tested inside GTA 5’s engine. Fans have compared rough locations with newer official footage, but those comparisons cannot establish what remains in the final game.
Notebookcheck similarly reports that the GTA 6 files are much scarcer than the GTA 5 material and may include low-detail assets rather than a complete early map. Rockstar has not publicly authenticated the archive, and the reports do not establish that Liberty City is planned for GTA 6.
Rockstar’s official release page lists Grand Theft Auto 6 for Nov. 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. With the launch now close, this archive is most useful as a look at abandoned projects and the studio’s development process, not as a reliable preview of what players will see in November.
