Lorenzo di Bonaventura, a producer associated with the Transformers films, is attached to produce alongside CD Projekt Red. Variety identifies the studio as both the game's developer and the franchise rights holder.

The reports describe the film as being in development and do not yet name a director, cast or release date. They also stop short of detailing the story, leaving it unclear whether the movie will follow V and Johnny Silverhand or tell a new story in Night City.

Deadline says Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide and its Phantom Liberty expansion has sold 15 million.
