Huron County funeral director facing 39 embezzlement and fraud charges
This happens an awful lot. Sometimes regulators catch it in time for the responsible party to make restitution, lots of times it doesn't.
A funeral director in Huron County, Michigan, faces 39 criminal charges for allegedly embezzling nearly $200,000 from prepaid funeral contracts over a decade, using the funds for personal expenses. Terry Kaufman, who operates Kaufman & Co. Funeral Home, is accused of misappropriating money from 55 prepaid funeral contracts, leading to charges including conducting a criminal enterprise and multiple counts of embezzlement and conversion. If convicted of the most serious charge, Kaufman could face up to 20 years in prison.
