Apps to boycott US goods gained traction in crisis over Greenland
Developers behind the “Made O’Meter” mobile app, which helps shoppers identify and avoid American products, say interest jumped in Denmark and elsewhere during a recent spike in transatlantic tensions tied to the dispute over Greenland.
After the recent flare-up in tensions over Greenland, apps designed to help shoppers identify and boycott U.S. goods saw a surge of interest in Denmark and beyond. The 'Made O’Meter' app, created by Ian Rosenfeldt, saw around 30,000 downloads in three days at the height of the diplomatic crisis in late January. The app uses artificial intelligence to identify and analyze products, then recommend European-made alternatives. Rosenfeldt hopes the app will send a message to supermarkets and encourage greater reliance on European producers.
