Early reviews of Marvel’s eight-episode VisionQuest are split, with the most consistent praise going to Paul Bettany and James Spader. The positive side is clearest in the available headlines: TechRadar calls the actors the MCU’s “best new double act” and describes the series as emotionally rich, while ScreenRant frames it as taking the Scarlet Witch saga to a new level.
Big ideas, dense mythology
Variety critic Alison Herman found clever visual concepts in Vision’s Mindspace and called Spader’s returning Ultron highly entertaining. Her review was much cooler on the whole, arguing that the show piles convoluted backstory and abstract ideas onto an emotional story that rarely connects. The shifting rules between Vision’s inner world and the physical one also left the series hard to follow, she wrote.
IndieWire’s Ben Travers reached a similarly negative verdict, awarding the series a C. He described Vision’s emotional journey as slight and stretched across eight episodes, though he also singled out Spader’s performance as a bright spot.
When it arrives
The series follows Vision as he confronts inherited memories and a possible connection to Tommy Maximoff, continuing threads from WandaVision. The first two episodes premiere on Disney+ on Oct. 14. New episodes will follow weekly on Wednesdays, with the finale scheduled for Nov. 11.
