Six Flags has temporarily shut down nine roller coasters similar to Goliath across six parks after a rider reportedly died following a fall from the Goliath coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Entertainment Weekly reported that 10 major coasters were closed after the incident, while THR described nine closures as additional to Goliath.
THR said official details of the death had not yet been confirmed. Local reports cited by the outlet said the rider fell, or was thrown, from Goliath, a 200-foot coaster that reaches 70 mph.
Six Flags said it closed similar attractions “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a company statement reported by the Associated Press and cited by THR. The company said guest and employee safety remained a top priority.
The temporary closures include Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, and Orion and Diamondback at Kings Island in Ohio. EW also named Fury 325 at Carowinds among the affected rides.
