Nathan Fielder reportedly secured a ‘kill switch’ for his Elizabeth Holmes documentary

Nathan Fielder asked A24 to fund an exploratory shoot for an Elizabeth Holmes documentary, with an option to abandon the project if he and co-director Lance Oppenheim found no film, Oppenheim told Chris O’Falt at IndieWire. He recalled Fielder requesting a provision that would let them “kill it at any time” and said A24 agreed.

The idea arose after a conversation in early 2023, Oppenheim recalled. He said Fielder worried Holmes’ story had been told many times already. Oppenheim called the arrangement something that “changed everything” because it gave them room to explore without pressure from people looking over their shoulders. In a separate Wired interview , Fielder said he wanted to start filming despite not knowing the angle, provided the filmmakers could “deliver nothing” if it did not work out.
