Zack Snyder plans an 'Escape from New York' remake with a 1981 view of 1997

ScreenRant reports Zack Snyder is developing an Escape from New York remake that he says will be set in 1997 “from the perspective of 1981.” He places a war between U.S. police and criminal elements on July 9, 1981, which he identifies as the original film’s release date. “The rest is pretty much Escape from New York,” Snyder says. MovieWeb also reports Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been contacting Snyder about playing Snake Plissken.
