Josh Brolin’s heartbeat was used for the whale in ‘Whalefall’

Director Brian Duffield told Variety that the ‘Whalefall’ team recorded Josh Brolin’s heartbeat and doubled it for the sperm whale that traps Jay, played by Austin Abrams. Brolin plays Jay’s late father, whose voice also serves as the whale’s spirit. Duffield said the whale was given facial scars similar to the father’s to make their connection feel more personal.
