‘Raise the Red Lantern’ returns to theaters in a 4K restoration

Gong Li stars as Songlian, a 19-year-old who becomes the fourth wife in a wealthy household in the 1920s. Adapted from Su Tong’s Wives and Concubines, the drama follows the wives’ competition for their husband’s favor and the privileges it brings. The 4K restoration begins its theatrical run at Film Forum, with a national rerelease planned.
