Spotify reportedly removes 50 million AI 'slop' tracks from recommendations

Spotify removed 50 million AI “slop” tracks from listeners’ recommendations, Corbin Bolies reported for Variety on Oct. 20, 2026, citing a company post on its “For the Record” blog. According to Spotify, the tracks are still available on the platform, but listeners must seek them out because they are not recommended by its algorithm or editors. That is distinct from more than 75 million tracks Spotify pulled from the platform after they were flagged as spam, Variety reported.

In the blog post, Spotify said it had examined tracks listeners skipped, ignored or said they did not want to hear. It said those tracks were consistently identified as slop or spam. The company also said it had made multiple updates to its recommendation system over the preceding six months and had seen fewer listener concerns about such content appearing in recommendations since the changes, according to Variety.
