Weekly World News comedy series gets $2.5 million to film a season independently

Deadline reports Weekly World News Studios raised $2.5 million from six private investors to finance a planned six-episode season. Robert Ben Garant and Cathy Shim will co-showrun the improvised mockumentary, whose reporters treat the tabloid's outlandish stories as real. Producers plan to pitch the series to distributors once they have filmed footage.
