Nintendo has introduced the core team behind its The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. In an Ask the Developer interview, director HokWai Ng said he proposed the development approach and oversaw the project: rebuild the game with today's technology, guided by the principle that “the visuals may change, but the experience does not.”
Ng said the original's more self-contained structure gives it a different appeal from the vast maps of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. He wanted to give players across generations a fresh chance to experience Ocarina of Time without spoiling the memories of those who played it before. Program director Hiroki Taguchi expressed a similar concern, saying that changing every little thing just because it is a remake could make the game cease to feel like Ocarina of Time.
The interview also introduces Aya Shida as art director and Masato Ohashi as one of the sound directors and the music lead. Shida said she first played the Nintendo 64 original after joining the project. Ohashi said he approached the music carefully because players may have memories tied to the original game's sound.
Nintendo describes the remake as a Switch 2 exclusive scheduled to launch Nov. 5. The interview was conducted before the game's release.
