Reeves remains involved
Deadline reports that Soderbergh offered to help complete the final weeks of principal photography after production paused while Reeves attends to an ongoing family matter. DC Studios said Soderbergh will work closely with Reeves, the cast and the crew to carry out Reeves’ vision for the sequel.
Reeves remains the film’s writer-director. He cannot currently be on set, but Deadline says he and Soderbergh will stay in contact through the end of filming, and Reeves will take over post-production when he is ready. Deadline reporter Justin Kroll also clarified that Reeves has not left the production and remains involved from London.
Soderbergh said his goal is to produce footage that fits what has already been shot so Reeves can finish the film.
The release-date impact is still unknown
Filming had been underway in London before the pause. The sequel remains scheduled for Feb. 18, 2028, though Deadline said it is too early to know whether the stoppage will affect that date.
Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell are returning as Batman, Alfred and the Penguin. New cast members include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch.
