Netflix reportedly orders two seasons of animated Twilight adaptation Midnight Sun

Netflix has committed to two seasons of Midnight Sun, the adult animated adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight retelling, Lionsgate revealed, as reported by What’s on Netflix.

The outlet quoted Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs discussing the order during the company’s Nov. 5 earnings call: “That’s a 2-season adult animation order at Netflix.” The commitment is for two seasons upfront, not a renewal following the release of a first season.

Midnight Sun adapts Meyer’s 2020 companion novel, which revisits the events of Twilight from Edward Cullen’s perspective. Netflix and Lionsgate are teaming up on the animated series, according to What’s on Netflix.

Beggs also described Meyer’s involvement in the adaptation: “Stephenie and her team are very hands-on, really running the process along with us at Netflix.”

What’s on Netflix reports that Sinead Daly is serving as showrunner, with Lynn Wang as supervising director. Meyer is an executive producer, and her Fickle Fish Films is producing alongside Lionsgate Television.
