Netflix announces Stranger Things prequel Other Worlds for 2028, with first teaser

Netflix has announced Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, a live-action prequel scheduled to debut on the streamer in 2028, JoBlo’s Cody Hamman reports. Its first teaser has also been released, as TheWrap reports.

The story takes place in Marion, Nevada, in 1955, before both the original Stranger Things and the stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow, according to TheWrap. This prequel reaches further back than the franchise’s existing stage prequel.

Kate Trefry co-created Other Worlds with Matt and Ross Duffer and will serve as showrunner and executive producer, TheWrap reports. She also wrote The First Shadow and has been part of the Stranger Things creative team since its second season, according to JoBlo.

Joe Wright will direct the first three episodes. Production is planned for New Mexico, JoBlo reports, distinct from the story’s Nevada setting.

In a statement reproduced by JoBlo, the Duffers described Other Worlds as a fresh take on Stranger Things with a new setting, new heroes and new villains.

The announcement leaves the story itself largely under wraps. TheWrap reported that no further plot details were revealed beyond the time and place setting.
