Taika Waititi has put his long-developing Star Wars movie on hold. During a press-junket interview for “Klara and the Sun,” he told Inverse that the movie was being put “on ice” and that he and Tony McNamara are “working on a different thing together.”
McNamara, the screenwriter behind “The Favourite” and “Poor Things,” had previously taken over scriptwriting duties on the Star Wars project so Waititi could concentrate on directing, according to Inverse. Waititi offered no details about their new collaboration. When asked for more, he checked with his publicist and was told not to elaborate.
The pause does not amount to a definitive cancellation. Waititi called the project “very iced” and said he has about four other films he is trying to make, but joked that “ice ages do come to an end.” He already has Star Wars history through his directing and voice work on “The Mandalorian,” and he did not provide a timetable for his movie.
