Zendaya reportedly plans lead actress Oscar campaign for ‘Dune: Part Three’

Variety’s Clayton Davis reported Oct. 23, citing multiple sources, that Zendaya will campaign for lead actress Oscar consideration for her role as Chani in “Dune: Part Three.” She was positioned in supporting actress for the first two films. The reported campaign is for consideration, not a nomination.

Variety links the category change to Chani’s expanded role. Its synopsis places her at the heart of a mystery unfolding nearly two decades after Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, seized control of the Imperium.

Warner Bros. and Zendaya’s representatives declined to comment to Variety. The outlet wrote that an Oscar nomination this year would be her first. At the time of its Oct. 23 report, Variety listed a Dec. 18 theatrical and Imax release for the film.
