Netflix reportedly developing a ‘Hatchet’ movie with Derek Cianfrance
Millennials rejoice! Cianfrance will write and direct the film in partnership with Gary Paulsen’s estate.
TLDR
Variety reports Netflix is developing a film based on Gary Paulsen’s 1987 survival novel ‘Hatchet,’ with Derek Cianfrance writing and directing and Andrew Mittman producing. The book follows 13-year-old Brian Robeson, who is stranded in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash with only a hatchet. Paulsen’s estate helped select Cianfrance; the book’s only previous adaptation was the 1990 TV movie ‘A Cry in the Wild.’
