Variety reports that Sony Pictures Classics acquired rights to Niki Byrne's “The Julia Set” after its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The distributor plans to release the film theatrically in 2027 across the United States and multiple international markets.
A math prodigy under pressure
Written and directed by Byrne, the drama stars Chase Infiniti as Julia Fischer, the youngest and most gifted student in an elite mathematics prep course. Julia must navigate the course's pressure and a fraught relationship with teaching assistant Pascal, played by Christopher Briney, while deciding what path she wants to take.
Jason Isaacs and Gillian Anderson play Pascal's parents. Nina Hoss, Carmen Ejogo, Chloe Bailey, Nico Hiraga, Liz Lin and Alex Dillard round out the cast. Sony Pictures Classics cited the film's reception at TIFF and Infiniti's performance in announcing the deal, but the acquisition report did not give a specific 2027 release date.
