Judd Apatow says appearing in his documentaries makes them more personal

Apatow told The Hollywood Reporter that appearing on camera can make a film more personal and show viewers whom its subjects are talking to. He appears in 'Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story,' which Bamford said was released on Netflix on October 23, 2026. For his Norm Macdonald documentary, Apatow said he instead arranged footage from Macdonald's life and career.
