Joe Manganiello has detailed the plot of Ben Affleck’s abandoned solo Batman movie in his memoir Bloodlines, according to Entertainment Weekly. Manganiello was set to return as Deathstroke, the main villain, while Affleck planned to write, direct, produce and star.
Affleck’s pitch was “a superhero version of David Fincher’s The Game,” Manganiello wrote. Deathstroke would believe Batman had killed his son and set out to dismantle Bruce Wayne’s life rather than simply beat him in a fight.
Deathstroke’s revenge plan
Manganiello said the story would have had Deathstroke kill Commissioner Gordon, take Alfred hostage and break into the Batcave. Another sequence would have seen him nearly kill Batman and Batgirl before they escaped on an aboveground train.
The finale was planned as a one-on-one battle through Gotham’s streets, inspired by a CGI fight sequence from the video game. Manganiello also recalled warning Affleck that writing, directing, producing and starring sounded like a lot for one person, though Affleck reassured him.
