Neon and Mayor Mamdani’s office plan four free ‘Once Upon a Time in Harlem’ screenings in NYC

The documentary was co-directed by the late William Greaves and his son David. IndieWire describes it as compiling footage William shot in 1972 at a gathering of Harlem Renaissance figures at Duke Ellington’s townhouse. In a statement quoted by IndieWire, Mamdani said, “We are proud to partner with the filmmaking team to offer free screenings to New Yorkers this weekend.”

To sign up, use Neon’s Eventbrite collection, which links to four free events. The A.V. Club reports that entry requires an RSVP, admission is first come, first served, and guests are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime. It says the screenings are overbooked to reach capacity. Clock times displayed on Neon’s Eventbrite collection are one hour earlier than the schedules printed by IndieWire, Deadline and The A.V. Club. Check the listing for your chosen screening before traveling.
