Duane “Keffe D” Davis was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years to life in a Nevada court after being convicted of first-degree murder in the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur. Variety reports that the judge imposed 20 years to life for the murder count and another 20 years to life for a deadly-weapon enhancement.
Davis was found guilty Aug. 31 of murder with the use of a deadly weapon and intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang. Prosecutors said he orchestrated the drive-by attack and handed the weapon to the gunman. Davis has maintained his innocence, and he and his attorney have said they will appeal.
Shakur was shot four times while stopped at a red light in Paradise, Nevada, after attending a Mike Tyson fight in Las Vegas. He died six days later.
Shakur’s siblings Sekyiwa and Maurice asked the judge for the maximum sentence and described the lasting impact of his death. Deadline reported that Davis again said he would appeal after the sentence was announced.
