Sarah Snook-led ‘The Birds’ limited series reportedly in development at HBO

HBO has taken a limited-series reimagining of The Birds starring Sarah Snook into development, Deadline reported Oct. 27. Variety confirmed the development. Both outlets say the project draws on Alfred Hitchcock’s film and Daphne du Maurier’s novella.

Deadline describes a present-day story set in Alaska, with a murder mystery at its center. Snook is attached to play Myra Massey, who, according to the official logline quoted by Variety, returns home with her young daughter while escaping a bitter custody battle. She secretly investigates a childhood friend’s suspicious disappearance as deadly bird attacks threaten her and her daughter. The logline ties the attacks to the crime.
