Page Six reports that the film cost $40 million and premiered at Hollywood Legion Theater in Los Angeles on Oct. 13. The production budget and opening-weekend forecast measure different parts of the release, so comparing them does not establish whether the movie will be profitable.
The official movie site describes Clayface as a horror thriller about Matt Hagen, a Gotham actor who undergoes an experimental treatment after being disfigured. Tom Rhys Harries stars alongside Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan. James Watkins directs from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini.
Boxoffice Pro describes the movie as a body-horror take on one of Batman’s lesser-known villains. Its analysis says strong marketing or word of mouth may be needed to attract moviegoers beyond fans already familiar with the character. Warner Bros. begins the international rollout Oct. 21 before the North American opening two days later.
