    TLDR

CultureCrave shares Villeneuve's comments via Empire: He said he wanted to return to 'Dune' not out of nostalgia but with a willingness to be severe with the material. Once 'Dune 3' was done, he thought he would need a “very powerful rocket” to pull him away from Arrakis. Being asked to direct the next Bond film, he said, felt like what he needed.

Culture Crave 🍿@CultureCraveDenis Villeneuve on going from ‘Dune 3’ to ‘007’ “I said, ‘Maybe it’s a good idea to go back to [Dune], not out of nostalgia, not because I miss it, but the opposite — I’m tired of it. I want to make sure that I will be severe with the material. That I will not be complacent” “I thought, ‘When it’s done, I need a very powerful rocket to pull me away from Arrakis.’ When I was asked to do the next Bond, I said: ‘Okay, this is what I need’” (via @empiremagazine)1h
cinesthetic.@TheCinestheticDenis Villeneuve initially planned to adapt the first DUNE novel across two films and move on to other projects. But after finishing DUNE: PART TWO, the images of DUNE MESSIAH kept coming back to him, and he realised he wasn’t ready to leave Arrakis. “I thought that I would want to go write a few films or do a couple of things before going back to DUNE: MESSIAH. But the images that kept coming back to my mind, the appetite is absolutely intact.” He eventually returned to Arrakis, with DUNE: PART THREE adapting Frank Herbert’s DUNE MESSIAH. The film is scheduled for December 2026, and Villeneuve has described it as his final DUNE movie.24m
