TLDR

ToonHive and DiscussingFilm, both citing @thechrisanton, say DC Studios’ Absolute Batman series is shifting from fully 3D animation to 2D with some 3D elements. ToonHive says original comic creators Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta are developing the show, which will explore Bruce Wayne’s friends in ways the comic couldn’t.

Warner Bros. Animation executive Peter Girardi said during New York Comic Con’s Jim Lee & Friends panel that the Absolute Batman animated series is “deep into development.” Bleeding Cool reports that the team explored a 3D approach before settling on 2D animation. Separate posts from DiscussingFilm and ToonHive, both citing @thechrisanton, say the show will still use some 3D elements.

Attendees saw an early visual-development image and a test clip of Batman fighting Black Mask’s gang. Comic writer Scott Snyder said animation gives the adaptation room to expand Bruce Wayne’s ensemble and relationships while remaining faithful to the source material. Artist Nick Dragotta joined Snyder onstage and shared a size chart for the new Bruce.
