Dodgers’ TV Deal Includes Key Advantage Over Other MLB Teams - Yahoo Sports
At the end of 2028, MLB wants holdthe local rights for all 30 teams and sell them as a national package, like the NFL and NBA. But the Dodgers' sweetheart deal doesn't motivate them to join MLB in this direction. If the Dodgers do join, it might be better for baseball (as much as i hate it - since I do enjoy the Dodgers' dominance), to level the playing field. I think this is as big an issue as the potential salary cap in the upcoming labor stoppage.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have a significant financial advantage over other MLB teams due to a tax exemption in their TV deal, stemming from a bankruptcy settlement. This exemption allows the Dodgers to retain an additional $66 million annually from their $334 million TV deal, exempt from MLB's revenue sharing. This unique arrangement, agreed upon in federal court, is set to last until 2039, potentially aiding the Dodgers in maintaining their competitive edge.
