The Digg Platform: What is it for, and what will/can it become?
My memory of digg from back in the day was that it was a place where individuals shared links to content, and there was a community that engaged such posts in the post’s comment section. Posts, and comments earned votes, and were regulated by the Platform users. There was a burgeoning internet culture via digg; this also aided by the video podcast diggnation. I was a casual consumer of diggnation. I used digg to become aware of online content that i would not otherwise have come to be aware of. The podcast was entertaining.
Then, one day, digg changed. Diggnation podcast was no more. And digg became an aggregation machine independent of users. Ironically, the changed digg to me had the same value it did as the original digg.
Now digg is back! The original digg appears to be somewhat back! Diggnation is back!
But, how will digg be different? What will digg do now that will prevent it from going the way it did? It went the way it did for a reason. I believe it went the way it did not because there was not a means to monetize the audience that was aggregated, but because it was too much effort to moderate the Platform, and to keep evolving the Platform via more formats and features to keep up with the other Social Media Platforms, and what the other Platforms allowed.
That said, other than being a community based content aggregator what is digg for, and what will, or can it become?
Will there be Chat Channels?
