Digg added a DMCA three-strike policy to their ToS today. I think something's coming.
I keep tabs on a few public repos for companies I find interesting, and Digg's docs repo just had its first commit in a while. Figured it'd be worth a look.
Mostly routine cleanup, but at the bottom there's an updated Repeat Infringer Policy with a formalized three-strike system for copyright claims. Digg has had user-generated content for a while now. Links, text posts, images. They've been fine without a formal strike policy. So why add one today?
Could just be legal housekeeping they finally got around to. Or they're preparing to host the kind of content that attracts the most aggressive copyright lawyers on the planet. The entertainment industry doesn't come after you for text posts and linked articles. They come after you when users start uploading their content.
I think users will be able to upload videos directly to Digg soon.
