The Future of Digg (Suggestions)
(This is not meant to be opinionated, these are changes that should be addressed especially in our current world of social media)
The doom scrolling feed should be fixed or replaced with a more pages feed with rows in each scroll to find content that’s new, trending, or heating up. Like the older internet that didn’t have infinite feeds. This could be OPT-IN.
Especially, when you’re trying to just find content that’s new and refreshing.
Could be optional or standardized. It can become overwhelming if it’s just infinite.
YouTube itself is a great example of this. I think Digg could pull this off.
Also, I know this might be very unpopular. The “digg up” and “Digg down” numbers should be reworked to be less like a game of trying to raise the number or lower the number of others.
Might be too addicting for some to constantly try and raise their number by whatever means necessary.
Muted Words/Topic/Content Manager
Would enable users to hide content they might not want to see like polticial, anime, books, or anything in general. Say, like NSFW content filtering.
Muted Words feature could enable people to filter comments and posts with those words such as ones deemed graphic.
Proper settings for Misinformation and/or other (not illegal) explicit content that may be too much.
Required Label Option for “satire” or other graphic content (not illegal graphic content) should be labeled instead of outright banned entirely.
Misinformation should have community notes like on Twitter (it’s still Twitter, sorry not sorry.)
Example: If someone posts a
A European style simple Privacy Policy + Rules
Like how EU requires many companies. A proper simple privacy policy that doesn’t use legal mumbo jumbo that people may not understand could go along way in ensuring users know what is collected, shared, or not linked to you.
Also, Digg shouldn’t link most data to its users and allow opt-outs for certain data collection; say analytics.
Note: I was just giving ideas I wasn’t trying to bring political content at all into this or any sort of opinions to anyone. Other things not discussed here can be left in the comments.
Thanks for reading if you got this far. 🙏🏻
